Arrive in Xi’an
Our Xi’an Flights arrive to Xi’an at noon. In Xi’an, the buildings are larger and generally nicer. The shops alternated between modern shops you would expect in any American city and streets filled with vendors selling very similar or identical items. From the way we went in to Xi’an Jiatong University, where are our Xi’an Hotels. The campus, though, is really very beautiful and quite large. Our rooms are larger than I expected, and include a bathroom with a sink, a western-style toilet, and a “shower.” Our first China city travelexcursion to Xi’an, I am ashamed to say, was to Wal-Mart! To get essential supplies like shampoo, toilet paper, soap, and in some people’s cases, a stockpile of desserts. Xi’an was all under constructions just like the rural, mountain villages. We ate dinner at the small Muslim café on campus. Three of us split a noodle plate, a huge dumpling plate, 3 potato falafel kabobs, and 3 cold drinks for only 6 yuan, or about a dollar (have that cost was for the cold drinks). It’s painful seeing how cheap everything is after eating at that hotel for a week and paying 6 or 7 dollars a meal for lunch and dinner (30-40 yuan) and 2 or 3 dollars for breakfast. We found a coffee shop on campus as well, but it didn’t open until officially 9:30 am, and even at 10 am it wasn’t open. We will be here for the next month and leave to Beijing by thechina domestic flightsthen. I think the two months China Tourswill have a great time .
